SD EPSCoR Dakota Seeds Graduate Student Opportunity

SD EPSCoR and its private business and research partners, Prairie Gold Venture Partners, South Dakota Innovation Partners, Sanford Research and others, are seeking curious, motivated, innovative graduate students interested in commercialization of technology and entrepreneurship and willing to “learn by doing”. To support these partnerships, the SD EPSCoR Dakota Seeds program will provide up to 12 2-year graduate assistantships .

Eligibility:

Students either currently in enrolled in graduate school or planning to enroll in the Spring or Fall semester of 2010 are eligible to apply. To remain eligible you must be a fulltime graduate student in good standing.

Desired Qualifications:

Students with undergraduate majors or significant course work in any STEM (Science, Technology, Enginerring and Math) discipline and graduating in December 2009 or May 2010 are preferred.

Position description:

Work with the business partner personnel to make technology assessments and investment decisions. Evaluate new technologies and inventions for patentability and commercial feasibility, identify their unique features and benefits, and assess the market need addressed by the invention. Position involves extensive online research of technologies, company profiles, industry drivers, and scientific and patent literature. The student will help build relationships with companies who could be potential technology licensees and develop business plans for start up companies to commercialize the technology. Good communication and writing skills are critical. Interest in business and/or law is valuable. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required.
