Deadlines

The FY22 Defense Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (DEPSCoR) funding opportunity announcements for the FY22 DEPSCoR Research Collaboration and FY22 DEPSCoR Capacity Building are now posted on grants.gov.

The Research Collaboration opportunity is quite similar to last year’s solicitation (two-person team, award amount, evaluation process), however, there are differences (specific topic areas, increased total number of awards).

The Capacity Building opportunity is a new component of DEPSCoR and aims to support the strategic objectives of Institutes of Higher Education in DEPSCoR States/Territories to achieve basic research excellence in areas of high relevance to the DoD. DEPSCoR officials encourage applicants to thoroughly read both announcements that follow.

Research Collaboration

The Research Collaboration funding opportunity seeks proposals that advance knowledge in basic science involving bold and ambitious research that may lead to extraordinary outcomes such as disrupting accepted theories and perspectives. Proposals must be submitted by a pair of researchers in DEPSCoR States/Territories (Applicant and Collaborator) aimed at introducing potential applicants to the DoD’s unique research challenges and its supportive research ecosystem.

  • Submission of application is due Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 10:59 p.m. CST.
  • The Basic Research Office anticipates up to $15 million in total funding will be made available for this program to fully fund and award up to twenty five (25) grants up to $600,000 (total cost) each. Each grant award will be funded up to $200,000 (total cost) per year for three (3) years.
  • Please see FOA-AFRL-AFOSR-2022-0006 for additional information.
Capacity Building

The Capacity Building funding opportunity aims to support the strategic objectives of IHEs (either individually or in partnership with others) in DEPSCoR States/Territories to achieve basic research excellence in areas of high relevance to the DoD.

  • Submission of application is due Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 10:59 p.m. CST.
  • The Basic Research Office anticipates up to $4 million in total funding will be made available for this program to fully fund and award between one to four grants up to $1 million (total cost) each. Each grant award will be funded up to $500,000 (total cost) per year for two (2) years.
