NSF CAREER Proposal Development Workshop

South Dakota EPSCoR is sponsoring an NSF CAREER proposal-writing workshop and assistance. Eligible faculty in South Dakota who are considering submitting an NSF Early Career proposal are encouraged to attend this Thursday, Oct. 13, workshop offered at SDSU’s SAD Room 104 (Admin/Morrill Hall, Room 104 at the base of the stairs near the west entrance) in Brookings, South Dakota, and virtually via Zoom from 9:30 – 11 a.m. CDT.
Dr. Kelvin Chu (former NSF program officer) with The Implementation Group (T.I.G.) will conduct the workshop and consult one-on-one with faculty working on CAREER proposals.

CAREER Program

  • The NSF Faculty Early-Career Development (CAREER) Program is a Foundation-wide activity that offers the NSF’s most prestigious awards in support of early-career faculty who have the potential to serve as academic role models in research and education and to lead advances in the mission of their department or organization. Activities pursued by early-career faculty should build a firm foundation for a lifetime of leadership in integrating education and research

  • Helpful Hints and Pitfalls to Avoid
One-on-One Technical Assistance Those who attend the workshop may request to schedule a 30-minute Zoom meeting with Dr. Chu to discuss your NSF CAREER proposal resubmission or new idea/topic that you intend to submit for the 2023 NSF CAREER Competition. For a one-on-one meeting, workshop participants must prepare and submit a short (1- to 2-page) draft concept paper or project summary for discussion to the SD EPSCoR office (sdepscor@sdbor.edu) and their campus Sponsored Research Office. The project summary should follow the NSF proposal guidelines, including a project overview and separate statements on the proposal’s intellectual merit and broader impact. If approved, SD EPSCoR will share the summary with Dr. Chu, who will contact the participant to schedule a 30-minute Zoom meeting. Requests must be submitted in a timely manner to allow time for the development of a competitive CAREER proposal in June 2023. If you have questions, contact the SD EPSCoR office.
