SD EPSCoR Impacts for the Week of May 17, 2018:

• South Dakota State University Associate Professor and BioSNTR Director Dr. Adam Hoppe was recently on the Bioradiations Brilliant Science Podcast to talk about his research and the work of BioSNTR. Hoppe uses CRISPR to perform genetic screens and identify every genetic function inside our primary immune cell — the macrophage. His important fundamental work will someday help researchers create targeted immunotherapies to tap the body’s own defenses for fighting diseases. More

• Registration for the 2018 Summer Undergraduate Research Symposium and Faculty Research Meetings will launch next week on Friday, May 25^th. The event will once again be held in Pierre at the Ramkota Hotel and Conference Center on July 25-26. There will be separate registration for the symposium and a free grant writing workshop for faculty that is being sponsored by the South Dakota Biomedical Research Infrastructure Network (SD BRIN). All South Dakota Research Experience for Undergraduate (REU) students are invited to present and participate in the symposium. The grant writing workshop is open to all STEM faculty in South Dakota. SD EPSCoR & SD BRIN-supported faculty are strongly encouraged to serve as judges for the poster session competition that will be held July 26^th.
