CAREER Proposal Development Workshop

To encourage an increase in CAREER proposal submissions by eligible faculty from all South Dakota institutions of higher education, SD EPSCoR and the SD Board of Regents are cosponsoring a NSF CAREER Proposal Development Workshop.

The NSF CAREER Program is a cross-cutting program that offers awards in support of junior faculty who exemplify the ideal of teacher-scholars through outstanding research, a commitment to educational excellence and the integration of education and research within the context of the mission of their organizations. Faculty at all academic institutions in South Dakota are eligible to apply for  CAREER awards including primarily undergraduate institutions and two-year institutions. To be eligible to apply, the faculty member must be on a tenure-track or tenure-track equivalent appointment. The faculty member’s  research and educational expertise must be a science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) field that NSF accepts proposals in. “NSF fundable areas” not only include the natural sciences, mathematics and engineering, but also the social sciences, behavioral sciences, economic sciences and STEM education.

The CAREER Proposal Development Workshop is the first in a series of activities that will take place between now and the end of June 2016 to assist faculty members with the development of their CAREER proposals. A part of this program will be the availability of the services of grant writing consultants who will be retained to help faculty prepare and review their proposals prior to submission to NSF.  Any eligible faculty member at any South Dakota institution of higher education may attend the workshop or take advantage of the online resources that will be made available, but only those faculty members that attend the workshop will be eligible for participation in the activities involving the grant writing consultants.

To encourage broad faculty participation from across the state, SD EPSCoR will reimburse travel expenses for all participating faculty.  For faculty members who are traveling longer distances, SD EPSCoR will reimburse one night’s lodging and per diem at state rates.

If faculty will not be able to attend but are committed to submitting a CAREER proposal, please contact me directly to discuss your situation. We believe that we may have a very limited ability to accommodate individuals who cannot attend the workshop because of prior commitments.
