Position: Hands-on STEM Educator Internship
Rate of Pay: $12 – 14/hour
Hours: 20-30/week
Internships Date: January 2018 -April 2018. Start and end dates are negotiable.

Job Description:

The STEM educator plans and leads hands-on STEM programming for pre and middle school youth in central South Dakota — both in our science center and at schools and after school programs. This position includes assisting with events and preparing educational materials.

Training in a variety of STEM curricula and resources is provided including but not limited to: Great Explorations In Math & Science, NASA GLOBE & other NASA resources, numerous robotics and coding resources, and environmental education resources. The intern will be supported in the effort to complete the National Geographic Educator Certification during this internship.

The opportunity for university credit is an option that can be initiated by the student with support from SDDC staff. Travel is required so a valid driver’s license is required. Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. is needed.

Education or STEM majors are preferred. December 2018 education majors are strongly encouraged to apply. Good communication skills, experience working with children, reliability, and ability to work independently are important.

There is potential for this this internship to lead to a permanent position.
