Journey Museum & Learning Center Appoints new ED

The Journey Museum and Learning Center is thrilled to announce the appointment of Conor McMahon as its new Executive Director, effective December 18th, 2023. With a wealth of experience in museums and cultural institutions and a passion for history, science, and the arts, McMahon is poised to lead the museum into an exciting new chapter.

Conor McMahon brings a dynamic blend of leadership, strategic vision, and a deep appreciation for cultural heritage to the Journey Museum. With over 20 years of professional experience in the museum field, McMahon has demonstrated a commitment to advancing the public’s understanding and appreciation of our shared history and promoting educational initiatives.

McMahon previously served as the Senior Curator with the Indian Arts and Crafts Board (IACB), U.S. Department of the Interior. In this role he managed the staff and operations of the IACB’s three museums in South Dakota, Montana, and Oklahoma, created new partnerships to increase museums programming and attendance, developed the IACB’s first online exhibition program, and oversaw major capital projects.  He also held positions as the Curator of Collections at the International Museum of the Horse, Lexington, KY, and as Associate Conservator at the Museum of New Mexico, Santa Fe, NM.  These roles gave Mr. McMahon extensive experience working with connecting local communities to their collective history and culture.  McMahon holds a BA in Classics from Emory University and a MA in Art Conservation from Buffalo State College.  His dedication to preserving and promoting history aligns seamlessly with the Journey Museum’s mission.

In assuming the role of Executive Director, McMahon envisions an exciting future for the Journey Museum and Learning Center.
