- Travel Grants ($$ as needed)
- Tribal College Collaboration Grants ($30,000 over 2 years)
1. Research Initiation Grants
Proposals for Research Initiation Grants are not being solicited at this time.
2. Preproposals for Major Research Grants (application deadline Aug. 4, 2023)
The South Dakota NASA EPSCoR Steering Committee invites interested state research groups to submit brief (five-page) preproposals for the FY 2024 NASA EPSCoR Major Research Award competition. For additional information, or to submit a preproposal, use the following link:
South Dakota can submit one full proposal to NASA for the FY 2024 NASA EPSCoR Major Research Award competition (NASA FY 2024 Research Announcement). These awards are made by NASA on a competitive basis and provide $750,000 (NASA funds) over a three-year period. Past awards require 50% ($375,000) cost-sharing with non-federal funds. Proposals that involve collaboration of two or more South Dakota universities are strongly encouraged; however, proposals involving a single university will be considered. Proposals must demonstrate a strong connection with NASA scientists or engineers in the form of one or more support letters.
South Dakota research teams have been successful in this program at the national level. Since 2007, the state has submitted 21 proposals to NASA and 14 have been funded. Recently, South Dakota proposals were selected in the FY 2021 and FY 2023 competitions.
Tentative timetable:
- Preproposals due and selection of in-state finalist(s): 04-Aug-2023
- Final EPSCoR FY 2024 Research RFP released: 17-Aug-2023
- Final EPSCoR FY 2024 proposals due to NASA: 15-Nov-2023
- EPSCoR FY 2024 NASA review and selections: Mar-2024
3. Travel Grants (open deadline)
Travel Grants are available for visits to NASA Headquarters, NASA Centers, or NASA contractors or to attend aerospace conferences or workshops with the purpose of developing research collaborations. Travel Grants require 50% non-federal matching funds.
For details and application instructions see:
4. Tribal College Collaboration Grants (application deadline Aug. 25, 2023)
Tribal College Collaboration Grants are available to support research or curriculum development activities involving tribal college faculty or staff working with counterparts at a public or private university in South Dakota. Proposals may request up to $30,000 (NASA funds) with a period of performance of 24 months. SD NASA EPSCoR expects to make one award. Tribal College Collaboration Grants do not require matching funds.
