NASA’s Break the Ice & SDSU
See the latest video on how SDSU’s College of Engineering students are working hard to Break the Ice (a NASA Rover Challenge).
Information below published by NASA Prizes.
This Break the Ice team’s three-rover solution features an Excavator that digs up icy lunar regolith, a Dumptruck that transports the regolith to a dumpsite, and a Battery Swapper that cycles out power packs to keep the operation running with no earthly interference.
Using this system, the team of South Dakota State University researchers hopes to create an autonomously powered system that can survive the chilly lunar nights.
