Are you a tech-savvy communicator that is interested in event coordination? If so, this opportunity is for you! Areas of study useful to this role include marketing, project management, business, graphic design, mass communications/ journalism, public relations, multimedia, photography, and/or video production.

This position is open to post-secondary students that attend any South Dakota public or private universities, or technical or tribal colleges. This is a great internship opportunity to gain marketing, communications, graphic design, public relations/events experience while building your portfolio.

 Job Description:

The Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR) was created by NSF to enhance research competitiveness by strengthening STEM capacity and capability across the United States. SD EPSCoR helps build partnerships between K-12, higher education, state government, and the private sector to enrich research, education, and economic development throughout South Dakota.

This SD EPSCoR intern will assist staff and facilitate on tasks including, but not limited to, event assistance, organizational reporting and communications-related activities (web, social media, graphic design/photography, and database management). Ideal candidates have the ability to design and will be able to contribute new content to SD EPSCoR publications.

This intern should be comfortable in adapting graphics and messaging to fit various formats to promote STEM.

Must be able to work an event at the Sioux Falls Convention Center on July 30 – August 1, 2024.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Event preparation – information input, print name badges, gather, and organize event materials.
  • Create graphics/content in Canva or Adobe for STEM related initiatives.
  • Help set-up for an event on July 30th and take photos/help with “day-of-event” tasks at the 11th Annual Research Symposium in Sioux Falls, July 31st – August 1st.
  • Curate photo libraries/albums.
  • Insert research abstracts into a booklet format.
  • Post-event follow-up with attendees.
  • Punctual and responsible with tasks and deadlines.
  • Other tasks as needed (e.g., updates to the website, graphic design creation, social post ideas, etc.)

Helpful Skills or Experience:

  • Knowledge and usage of design and photo editing software like (Canva or Adobe Suite).
  • Comfortable creating content and taking pictures for social media and website.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Organized and eager to learn.
  • Attention to detail and bringing new ideas are appreciated!

Additional Information:

  • $16 – $18 / hour DOE (30-40 hours per week)
  •  Must have a valid drivers license
