SD EPSCoR Impacts for the Week of September 13, 2018:

  • Congratulations to Dr. Jon Kellar (South Dakota School of Mines & Technology), Dr. Brian Logue (South Dakota State University), Dr. Stanley May (University of South Dakota), and Dr. Ashley Podhradsky (Dakota State University) on their recent Research Traineeship award, “Cyber-Physical-Social System for Understanding and Thwarting the Illicit Economy.” Their project is one of 17 awarded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), totaling $51 million, to develop and implement graduate education traineeship models in STEM fields. The awards will help train the next generation of scientific leaders to develop the skills necessary to tackle complex societal problems. More

  • The National Alliance for Broader Impacts, NSF and Arkansas EPSCoR have organized a free webinar series to highlight broader impacts, diversity and broadening participation. The first workshop, Broader Impacts: 101, will be held Nov. 26 from 1 – 2 p.m. (CST). The second workshop, Diversity & Broadening Participation, will be held Dec. 6 from 11 a.m. –  12 p.m. (CST). Featured presenters include Janice McDonnell, a Science Agent in the Department of Youth Development at Rutgers University and Jory Weintraub, the Director of the Duke University Broader Impacts Resource Center.
