The vision of SDSGC is to expand opportunities for all South Dakotans through education, research, and public service in the fields of aerospace, earth science, and supporting STEM disciplines that are essential to NASA’s mission and to the development of the nation’s workforce. SDSGC maintains a statewide network of 30 affiliate organizations representing public, private, and tribal universities, a technical college, informal science education centers/museums, and technology-based industry. Additional consortium affiliates are the state’s two federally funded research facilities: the Sanford Underground Research Facility and the USGS Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center.

Major programs that will be supported include internships with NASA and aerospace industries, graduate research fellowships, general educational stipends, engineering design team competitions, and various programs for K–12 educators and students.
