Biofilms in the Human Body – Part 3 of 3
Lesson Overview
Biofilms are a slimy film of bacteria that sticks to many surfaces. Biofilms are all around us. Luckily, the human body is equipped to deal with many potential pathogens, including biofilms. Mucus is one way humans deal with these pathogens. Mucus serves as a protective barrier lining the oral and nasal passages. This mucus can “catch” pathogens that enter, preventing the growth of biofilms.
Grades 9-12 (Biology) Three parts to this unit.
In this unit, students will journey through the different ways that biofilms enter and affect our bodies. They will create hands-on models and participate in activities that allow them to simulate the impact of biofilms on the human body.
